Care Intelligence - Innovative Uses of Data from Health IT Systems
Improvements in healthcare quality, patient safety, and efficiency are the principal reasons for implementing health IT systems. One of the underlying benefits of any IT system is the patient data that's now readily available. This value of this data is not just for physicians and patients but it also holds tremendous opportunities for all stakeholders in the healthcare system. Understand how data from health IT systems is creating additional value for providers, apply this information to transform health data into meaningful and actionable information that drives real-time decision making and leverage best practice strategies to improve patient outcomes. Don't miss this informative session where our panelists will discuss innovative uses of this data and the controversy around it.

Avera Health - IT and the Greater Vision
The picture of information technology within Avera Health has been shifting over the past three years from being independent and regionally focused, to having much more of a system-wide approach. The implementation of a system-wide EMR over the past two years has solidified the importance of a unified approach to IT. At Avera, IT is more than just the moving of traditional data. It has also incorporated into the greater vision of telehealth applications. As in most situations, the first 12 years of telehealth services started slowly. However, in the past three years the growth and expansion of various telehealth-related services has been significant. These include the traditional in-patient and out-patient consults, and a wide variety of additional program growth. With programs like eICU® Care and CareVIEW in operation, and additional projects like Tele-Urgent Care. e-Pharmacy and Emergency Telehealth in the implementation phase, combined with the new EMR, these rural communities supported by the Avera Health System have better access to quality health care services close to home.
This presentation will highlight the evolution of IT within the Avera Health System and will include a summary of the issues and difficulties encountered as well as some of the successes and opportunities afforded by this greater vision.

Communication Strategy - Rethinking your Organization's Approach to ICT
Today, the healthcare sector is challenged to be financially responsible while managing an aging population and clinician shortages against the backdrop of a technological boom that has shaped and transformed almost every other industry on a global scale. Yet, as most experts agree, the healthcare sector has been slow to adopt information and communications technology (ICT.) But leveraging ICT solutions to provide the highest quality of patient care can and should produce financially sound and viable healthcare systems. ICT will be a competitive differentiator for healthcare organizations and it will enable them to address the challenges they face. Do you view your ICT investments as expenses or assets for competitive advantage?

Security and Innovation in Health IT
Forever in search of new ways to steal personal data about Internet users, identity thieves have found a fertile new source of sensitive information to sell on the black market: online medical records. And the record number of Americans without health insurance has created an exploding market for fraudsters who traffic in insurance packages created with stolen identities. Meanwhile, more hospitals, insurance companies and drugstores are making patient records accessible online. This panel will address the latest security and privacy issues in health IT and what your organization should be prepared for today and in the future. Discover what's new on the horizon, up and coming trends and what your organization should be thinking about.

The e-ICU: A Model for the Future
The e-ICU at Saint Luke's Health System supports patient safety and transforms care by being another layer of eyes and ears watching out for patients, standardizing critical care, and extending specialty care to rural areas. Bedside staff has immediate access to critical care experts at the push of a button and uses a national, critical-care database to research disease or conditions. It also extends knowledgeable staff to a larger, underserved area and is a recruiting tool for rural facilities/communities. The results are decreased length of stay and improved mortality rates, and Saint Luke's is in the top 5 e-ICU sites in the nation for performance and improvement in patient outcomes. The e-ICU is an example of how technology enhances patient care and actually demonstrates that implementing technology can have an effect on patient outcomes and overall healthcare.
Walk away with insight and understanding on business challenges solved, what worked and what didn't and learn how your organization can effectively leverage an e-ICU.

Going Beyond the Claim: Automating Clinical Data Collection and Utilizing Natural Language Processing for Improved Patient Outcomes
Quality improvement, pay-for-performance, and patient-centered care initiatives are being implemented to reduce clinical complications, decrease health care costs, and improve the quality of life through wellness or management of chronic diseases. However, identifying patients, collecting clinical data in order to apply individualized interventions, and monitoring outcomes can be an expensive, time-consuming and inaccurate process. This presentation will cover a case study of how a health plan successfully used a system with Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology to automatically review clinical data residing in dictated notes, electronic medical records, lab, registry and practice management systems to identify lab values, examinations and other metrics in a disease management program.
